Office space in Ayr identified for yoga studio expansion plan

A new yoga and meditation studio could open on South Harbor Street in Ayr.

Plans have been revealed to change the use of an office space so it can make way for the new business. Behind the proposal is Box Yoga, already present in Unit 1, 64 Churchill Towers.

It is understood plans are in place to move the business to Unit 2, 56 Churchill Towers, South Harbor Street, as the business grows.

Graham and Sibbald are the agents in the proposals and the applicant is listed as Barochan Developments.

In a supporting statement, Graham and Sibbald said: “The applicant wishes to convert the use of this existing office (Class 1A) into a yoga and meditation studio (Class 11) in order to relocate the current Box Yoga studio from Unit 1, 64, Churchill Tower to Unit 2, 56 Churchill Tower.

“This will provide a larger space to further develop a local business and is an opportunity to provide more local residents with a local health and wellbeing facility, different on offer to other leisure operators in the the immediate surroundings, such as the Citadelle leisure center. (managed by South Ayrshire Council).

“The applicant’s proposal will have little or no impact on the leisure center, as the applicant’s use is solely for yoga and mindfulness classes. »

If approved, the yoga studio would operate between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Monday to Sunday.

Supporting documents stated: “The reduced nature of the proposal and proposed operation will again ensure that there will be no impact on existing residential amenities in the area due to noise, odors, traffic or other similar problems. The expanded studio will not operate early in the morning or late in the evening so that residents are not disturbed.

“The unit extends to 106 m² and offers an increase in the floor space currently available to the applicant. The move will ensure the vitality and viability of Box Yoga and allow them to grow sustainably, which will contribute to the region's economy. Previous changes of use away from office were accepted by Council, as well as the change of use to the yoga studio.

The proposals are listed as “awaiting consideration” on South Ayrshire Council’s online planning portal and a decision on them is expected in July.
