Off-duty security guard Aaron Brown Myers, 51, shot dead teen he wrongly believed had gun to rob store

An off-duty security guard has been arrested and charged with murder after fatally shooting a 17-year-old boy at a sports store.

Myers told cops the teen was planning to rob the store.

He also expressed concern about his 13-year-old son who was taking a jujitsu class nearby.

A probable cause statement from the Renton Police Department added that the boys ignored Myers' commands and thought one of them was “going to kill him.” [Myers]”, USA Today reported.

Police say surveillance footage appears to refute that claim.

Police said it showed the boys approaching the front entrance of the store as Myers sat in his vehicle in the parking lot conducting “watch” while his son practiced.

Myers, who said he was a licensed security guard, reportedly said “he saw a lot of crimes happening” outside the store.

The footage was then taken as Myers approached when he got out of his vehicle and pointed a gun at the duo.

One of the teenagers then allegedly took the BB gun out of his pocket and placed it on the ground before holding out his arms to indicate that he was not in possession of a weapon.

The police document then states that Myers pushed the boy to the ground and detained him by police while pointing his gun at him.

“Immediately thereafter…it is clear that he was shot because he abruptly moves his body away from Myers and falls to the ground,” the document continues.

Police said Myers cried when officers arrested him and said he had a “duty to act” in the face of what he thought was a disturbing situation.

“Myers felt like he didn't have time to call 911 and that he had a duty to act to stop others from harming an innocent person and to protect his son, who was was nearby,” according to the police report. .

He said he saw what he believed to be a gun in one of the teen's waistbands and saw the boy “grab the handle of the gun,” police wrote.

Myers said he asked the teen not to stay still, but he ignored the instructions and “grabbed the gun further.”

Myers said he thought the teen was “going to pull him out” and “was going to kill him.”

That's when Myers fired the fatal shot.

Rouhani's principal at Kent-Meridian High School, David Radford, sent an email to parents and students informing them of the teen's tragic death.

“As some of you may have heard the news on Wednesday evening, June 5, Hazrat Ali Rouhani was involved in an altercation in Renton, which tragically resulted in loss of life,” he said. written, according to the Kent Reporter.

“Our thoughts are with his friends and family during this sensitive time.”

It is unclear when Myers will appear before a judge.
