Odenton man killed in suspected targeted shooting, police say

Anne Arundel police made an arrest Tuesday in a Monday night shooting that left a 27-year-old Odenton man dead.

About 9:45 p.m. Monday, officers found Oludayo Olugbemi alive but injured in the 500 block of Meadowmist Way, a court in the ReNew Odenton apartment community, police said in a news release. First responders began administering life-saving measures on scene and Olugbemi was taken to the Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead.

Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said Nicholas Francis Xavier Giroux, 36, of Odenton, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first- and second-degree murder.

The charges against Giroux were not yet available for review by the Maryland court system. His relationship with Olugbemi was also not immediately clear, nor were the circumstances of the shooting.

Neighborhood residents told police they heard several gunshots outside their homes.

Between the city of Annapolis and the rest of Anne Arundel County, Olugbemi is the fifth homicide victim in 2024. He was also the second in three days.

Keion McKinney, 34, was shot to death in the backyard of a Severn home Friday evening, police said.

As with Olugbemi's killing, police suspect the McKinney shooting was a “targeted incident,” although they have not said the two were related.

Investigators are still searching for a suspect in the McKinney case.
