OC Sheriff Warns South OC Residents Against Breaking In

Orange County Sheriff's deputies increased patrol stops in Rancho Santa Margarita due to the attempted break-in.



RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — The Orange County Sheriff's Department warned residents to remain vigilant, after deputies received reports of suspicious activity and an attempted burglary in Rancho Santa Margarita.

The attempted burglary was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. on June 14 in the Robinson Ranch area, an OCSD news release states.

Upon arrival, deputies received an additional call regarding suspicious activity in the same area.

As a result of these incidents, Orange County Sheriff's deputies are increasing patrol efforts to keep the community safe, the press release states.

The ministry has published a number of tips and tricks to prevent crime and secure your home:

  • Lock doors and windows: Always lock all doors and windows, even when you are at home.
  • Outdoor lighting: Install motion sensor lights around your property to deter intruders.
  • Alarm systems: Use security systems and alarms to alert yourself and authorities of any violations.
  • Secure Valuables: Keep valuables out of sight of windows and consider a safe for important items.
  • Landscaping: Trim bushes and trees near your home to eliminate hiding places for burglars.
  • Smart home devices: Use smart home technology like doorbell cameras and smart locks for added security.
