An Oakland County sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office announced the death of a deputy, and Sheriff Michael Bouchard will provide an update today at noon.

According to WDIV, the deputy was shot and killed in Detroit while following a stolen vehicle Saturday evening.

“I am heartbroken to learn of the shooting death of one of our Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies,” County Executive Dave Coulter said in a statement. “Please keep him, his loved ones and his county colleagues in your heart today.

“I have been in contact with Sheriff Bouchard to offer support to the employees of the Sheriff's Office during this difficult time.

It was already a tough week for the sheriff's office, as Bouchard pointed out that some deputies who responded to the mass shooting at a Rochester Hills splash pad had previously been part of the responses to the Oxford High School mass shootings and from Michigan State University.
