Oakhurst man sentenced to life in prison for triple murder

An Oakhurst man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of three people.

The Fresno County District Attorney's Office announced the conviction Thursday.

The big picture: Andrew Levi Hammond, 29, was sentenced Thursday to three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of personal use of firearms.

  • He was also sentenced to an indeterminate term ranging from 75 years to life in prison.
  • Hammond was found guilty of all counts and firearm enhancements on May 1.

Driving the news: Hammond shot and killed Fernando Gonzales during a rosary ceremony in Fresno in September 2020.

  • In October 2022, Hammond shot and killed Steven Rice at a Fresno residence after a previous physical altercation between acquaintances of Hammond.
  • A few weeks later, in November, Hammond shot and killed Brandon Munoz in an abandoned house in Fresno during a verbal altercation over a small unpaid debt.
  • Hammond also had an extensive criminal history, including auto theft, felony escape and three counts of assault by means likely to cause great bodily injury.
