Oak Ridge examines two sites to replace a fire station

The Oak Ridge City Council has given city officials the green light to purchase two acres of land somewhere on the east end of town to build a new fire station to replace the one currently on the Oak Ridge Turnpike.

The cost: Up to $200,000.

The location: A site near the east McDonald's fast-food restaurant on the Turnpike – or another site that City Manager Randy Hemann has not publicly identified. Speaking to City Council members at their June 10 meeting, the director said he did not want to identify the location because knowledge of the City's interest in the land could cause the price to increase.
