Number of divorced WA fathers who miss out on children on Father's Day

The divorce rate across the country is an incredible 48%, or nearly one in two marriages.

When children are involved, as is the case for millions of former couples, another special occasion presents itself: Father's Day, which brings challenges related to dividing up time spent with their children.

In light of this, Mixbook conducted a survey of 3,000 divorced fathers to understand how many of them will not be able to spend Father's Day 2024 with their children.

The results show how divorced fathers in Washington fare compared to fathers in other states when it comes to spending time with their children this Father's Day.

Nationally, more than one in five divorced fathers (22%) say they likely won't see their children for Father's Day.

  • In Georgia, 38% of divorced fathers said they would not spend time with their children.
  • In Arkansas, 9% of divorced fathers will not be able to see their children.
  • In Washington, nearly one in three divorced fathers (30%) will not have time with their children on Father's Day.

How Does Missing Father's Day With Their Kids Affect Divorced Dads?

  1. 50% of divorced fathers said missing important moments with their children was the most difficult aspect.
  2. 26% cited their children's feeling disconnected as their biggest concern
  3. 26% also described feeling mental distress
  4. 4% mentioned the anxiety of having to explain the situation of not seeing the children to others.

Overall, the results show that 68% of divorced fathers say Father's Day is very important to them.

What are some fun Father's Day activities for divorced dads and their kids

The 3,000 dads surveyed indicated their ideal way to spend the day.

  • 40% particularly enjoy brunching with their children. Mealtimes are a bonding activity.
  • 20% like to watch a movie or play games at home, activities to spend quality time together.
  • 15% of fathers say they enjoy hiking or other outdoor activities with their children.
  • 14% mentioned that working on a DIY project can bring everyone together.
  • 11% said they enjoy watching or playing sports together to strengthen bonds through shared interests.

And the rest of the year? What holidays or special occasions with children do divorced fathers cherish the most?
