November stabbing attacks by University of California, Merced student were motivated by ISIS

FBI: November stabbing attacks by University of California, Merced student were motivated by ISIS

An 18-year-old University of California-Merced student who stabbed four people before being shot and killed by authorities last November was motivated by ISIS, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

An FBI statement obtained by PEOPLE claims that Faisal Mohammed, an American-born student, had ISIS propaganda on his computer. Authorities believe he self-radicalized because he had no direct contact with the organization.

Investigators say Mohammed's own writings reveal his attack was planned in advance.

All of Mohammed's victims survived the November attack.

The FBI says Mohammed first stabbed two students with a hunting knife in a classroom. He then attacked a construction worker who came to help the students. While trying to flee the campus, he stabbed a university employee.

Mohammed's rampage preceded by a month the terrorist attacks that killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California.
