Northeast Side shooting results in partial lockdown of St. Philip's College for hours, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – A shooting in northeast San Antonio led to a partial lockdown of St. Philip's College for several hours Tuesday afternoon, according to San Antonio police.

The first shooting happened around 4 p.m. in the 5100 block of North Foster Road. SAPD said a man was shot in the upper body and was hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities are not sure how many other people were involved in the shooting, but a vehicle later fled the scene, according to SAPD.

Police said one or more people then abandoned that vehicle on Dakota Street and ran toward a home on South Walters Street near St. Philp's College, triggering a lockdown of several buildings.

After several hours, eight people were arrested after leaving the house and turning themselves in, SAPD said.

Some of them told police that there were still people inside the house, but that no one else had come out after they were asked to do so.

It is unclear how many of them were connected to the Northeast Side shooting.

Several streets near the East Side community college were blocked Tuesday evening.

The lockdown ended around 9 p.m. on Tuesday and, according to the college, all on-campus activities have resumed.
