North Providence's Mark Santili acquitted in fatal stabbing

PROVIDENCE – A jury this week acquitted a 62-year-old North Providence man of involuntary manslaughter for allegedly fatally stabbing a man in the neck.

The jury found Mark Santilli not guilty of the fatal stabbing of Torrezz Lumpkins, 29, in October 2021 after a trial before Superior Court Judge Maureen B. Keough.

A look at the case

Police responded to a reported disturbance at 4 Smithfield Rd. around 7:44 p.m. on Oct. 20, 2021, the North Providence Police Department said at the time.

Lumpkins had been stabbed and suffered a “serious neck injury,” police said. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Santilli, who lived on Smithfield Road, was arrested and charged with murder. The North Providence Police Department said at the time that it was an isolated incident in which Santilli and Lumpkins knew each other.

He was represented at trial by John E. MacDonald and Stephen R. Archambault. Daniel Carr Guglielmo represented the state.
