North Little Rock community 'shocked' after weekend shooting that left man injured

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – One man is recovering and another is in jail after a weekend shooting in North Little Rock.

Several people in the community said they knew the person who was shot and said the violence needs to stop.

According to investigators, officers responded to reports of a shooting at 11:49 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of JFK and McCain Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they said they found an adult male lying on the ground suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The man was transported to a local hospital where his injuries were not life-threatening.

After interviewing witnesses and obtaining a description of the suspect's vehicle, NLRPD officers said they were able to locate the suspect, Latarryes Bush, 20, in the 3900 block of North Cypress.

Jada Daneridge said the man who was shot was a street pastor she regularly passes on her way to work, as she did on Sunday.

“He was just spreading the word of the Gospel,” Daneridge said.

Daneridge said she was shocked when she saw he was lying on the ground and there was a rush of people around him.

“He was just preaching and now he's on the ground bleeding out,” Daneridge said.

She and others like William Dobson say they never imagined such a thing would happen.

“It shocks me. I came out of the church, I heard it, and it hurt me. I don’t like to see something like that happen,” Dobson said. “I’m 71 years old and I don’t like to see violence.”

Dobson said he had lived in the neighborhood for several decades and had seen the street preacher several times.

“We don’t need any more shootings and killings here,” Dobson said.

Daneridge said he hopes the man she often sees preaching on the street makes a full recovery.

Police said Bush was taken into custody and later admitted to detectives that the incident resulted from the victim's refusal to turn over some of her property to Bush.

Authorities said Bush faces multiple charges, including criminal attempt to commit capital murder, robbery, first-degree battery, felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. Annex Six with the aim of delivering it.

Police said Bush was transported to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Center and is currently being held without bond.

NLRPD officials asked anyone with information regarding this incident to call them at 501-680-8439 or Detective William Williams at 501-771-7151.
