North Bellmore man convicted of stabbing during St. Patrick's Day pub crawl

MINEOLA, NY – Nassau County Prosecutor Anne T. Donnelly announced the conviction of Martin Carpio, a 36-year-old North Bellmore man, for a violent stabbing that occurred at a St. Patrick's Day event in March 2023 The incident took place in Farmingdale, causing serious injuries to a 21-year-old man.

Carpio was convicted of first-degree assault, a violent B felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, an A misdemeanor. However, he was acquitted of attempted second-degree murder and two counts of attempted third-degree assault.

The altercation began in the early hours of March 5, following a bar crawl called “LepreCon.” According to DA Donnelly, Carpio escalated the confrontation by using a three-and-a-half-inch blade to stab the victim twice in the chest, seriously injuring his lung and diaphragm. The victim required life-saving surgery at Nassau University Medical Center.

The incident allegedly began when Carpio made inappropriate advances toward a 15-year-old girl, leading to a confrontation with her father and the stabbing of another young man who tried to intervene.

The trial, which began on May 20, 2024, concluded after six days of jury deliberations. Carpio now faces up to 25 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for August 9, 2024. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joseph Grasso and Alexa Mirotznik.

    BENSALEM, PA—A tragic fire at Top of the Ridge Trailer Park in Bensalem resulted in the death of one resident and significant damage to two mobile homes.   • Police release photo of suspect vehicle in fatal hit-and-run in Montgomery County

  • Little Egg Harbor man sentenced to 12 years in prison for robbery

    OCEAN COUNTY, NJ— Christopher Hurley, a 27-year-old Little Egg Harbor resident, was sentenced to twelve years in New Jersey State Prison for a 2022 robbery. Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D .
