Norfolk emergency workers extinguish fire after finding fully engulfed barn

NORFOLK, Neb. (KCAU) – Firefighters encountered a barn fully engulfed in flames Sunday morning.

According to a news release, the fire was reported at 4:43 a.m. and the Norfolk Division of Fire was dispatched to the 3400 block of North 37 Street.

When responders arrived, there was a 40 x 60 storage building that had burned and “collapsed with smoke from the flames.”

The release states that while firefighters worked to bring the fire under control, it was determined that the exterior electrical service to the home on the property was smoking and arcing. Once Elkhorn Public Power disconnected the power, officials were able to put out the fire.

The press release specifies that the cause of the fire is still undetermined. The property suffered $200,000 in damage to the building and home.

Other organizations that contributed to this incident included Hadar Fire, Battle Creek Fire, Pierce Fire, Elkhorn Public Power and the Madison County Sheriff's Office.

No one was injured during this incident.
