CARROLL COUNTY, Ky. (WXIX) – A northern Kentucky man was found fatally shot during a reported road rage incident on Interstate 71, according to state police.

It happened around 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The incident is still under investigation, but so far Kentucky State Police said the preliminary investigation shows two vehicles went off the highway at Exit 43 in the Carroll County.

At that time, one of the drivers involved in the shooting was speaking with a 911 dispatcher and reported that the other driver was “displaying a firearm,” state police wrote in a news release Sunday .

“After exiting the highway, both vehicles were initially traveling on KY 389 before the incident escalated to the point of gunfire,” the statement continued.

“The driver of one of the vehicles involved, later identified as Daniel Shouse of Carrollton, was shot and killed by the driver of the other vehicle.”

The Carroll County coroner pronounced Shouse dead at the scene and his next of kin have been notified, police said.

Further details were not released Sunday.
