Nineteen Cuban migrants detained in Guatemala

THE Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC) apprehended a human smuggler traveling with 19 Cuban migrants who had entered the country irregularly. Among them were three minors.

The police operation took place at kilometer 73.8 of the CA-2 West road in Escuintla. The mission was executed by the PNC’s Tactical Mobile Interdiction Unit (UMIT).

A suspected “coyote”, identified as Jaime “N”, 40, was captured while transporting the migrants in a Honda SUV. Authorities reported that Jaime “N” was caught transporting the Cubans.

The 19 people detained were taken to the headquarters of the Guatemalan Migration Institute, where appropriate actions were coordinated to resolve their immigration status. Jaime “N” was taken to court to face human trafficking charges.
