Nighttime fire in Wadsworth Street leaves two displaced and three cats dead

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — On Saturday, June 29, at 3:10 a.m., Syracuse Fire Department received a 911 call about a possible house fire in the 800 block of Wadsworth Street on the city's north side.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found flames coming from the back of the house.


They quickly began putting out the fire on the first floor, where the flames were strongest, while another group of firefighters searched the house.

Firefighters discovered that the fire was coming from the kitchen located at the back of the house, on the first floor. Their search also revealed that there was no one in the house.

The fire was extinguished after 40 minutes.

The first floor of the home suffered extensive fire, smoke and water damage, while the second floor also suffered fire, smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Two people who lived in the home were displaced by the fire and were not home at the time of the fire.

No injuries were reported, neither among civilians nor among firefighters. Unfortunately, three cats were lost due to the fire.
