Nicki Minaj arrested in Amsterdam for alleged possession of “soft” drugs

On Saturday May 25, Nicki Minaj was arrested by Amsterdam police at an airport in the Netherlands as she traveled to Manchester for the next leg of her Pink Friday 2 tour. The rapper was due to perform at the Co-op Live Arena later in the evening. Minaj captured the whole experience on an Instagram livestream. Throughout the lengthy video, Nicki Minaj goes back and forth with the officers. “I'm not going in there,” Minaj demanded after the officers motioned her into the back of their vehicle. “I need a lawyer present.”

After repeatedly asking if she was under arrest, the 41-year-old rapper was told to stop filming and get into the police car. In another part of the video, she is informed by another man that her luggage is going to be searched. Robert van Kapel, a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, confirmed that Minaj was arrested at the airport for possession of “soft drugs.”

Nicki Minaj accuses Amsterdam police of trying to sabotage her

Following the incident, in a series of tweets, Nicki Minaj took to X (formerly Twitter) to inform her fans of the situation. According to her, this is all a ploy to prevent her tour from succeeding. “They're getting paid a lot of money to try to sabotage my tour because so many people are furious that it's such a success and they can't eat me up. They were caught stealing money from my trips/jets. Got fired. I became crazy. Etc.” She also claimed that the police intended to hide drugs in her luggage.

Nicki Minaj also claims that although police discovered some drug paraphernalia, such as pre-rolls, marijuana is legal in Amsterdam. Minaj would eventually reveal that the marijuana belonged to her security guard. “Keep in mind that they took my luggage without my consent. My security has already told them that these pre-rolls belong to him. Oh yeah and the pilot wants me to delete my Instagram post. Check out some of his tweets below.

Update: Nicki Minaj has been released after being arrested at an Amsterdam airport, according to reports. She was also fined an undisclosed amount.
