NIA arrests five for luring and trafficking Indian youth to foreign countries after promising jobs

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested five accused after searches in several states jointly conducted by the NIA and the state police in a case of human trafficking and cyber fraud. ANI reported Monday.

In a press release issued by the NIA on May 27, the agency said it had conducted searches in six states and union territories, in collaboration with local police, into human trafficking cases involving forced cybercrimes.

The searches also led to the seizure of incriminating materials, including documents, digital devices, several passports, among others.

The agency said the arrests were made in connection with a case in which young Indians were lured and then trafficked to other countries after receiving false promises of jobs. The young people are then forced to work in “fake call centers” in Laos and Cambodia, the central agency specifies in its press release.

Eight new FIRs have been registered in the case and five accused have been arrested.

This comes after the NIA took over the case from Mumbai Police on May 13 after finding that the human trafficking syndicate was not just limited to Mumbai but had links to other parts of the country .
