Former NFL player Daniel Muir reportedly said he “whipped his [teen son’s] a–,” court documents said.

Bryson Muir was found safe Wednesday, two weeks after the teenager was reported missing following a dramatic SWAT operation at a church compound. Court documents reveal the 14-year-old's grandmother, Cheryl Wright, noticed he had a black eye before he disappeared after calling police, which is believed to be the result of punishment from his father.

The teen's uncle managed to record a phone conversation with Daniel Muir, the boy's father, who asked him why the boy was in trouble. In the recorded conversation, the father allegedly accused the teen of inappropriate behavior and admitted to the uncle that he had “kicked his ass like a grown man,” according to court documents. But Muir denied to investigators that he hit the teen.

A probable cause affidavit states that the father gave Indiana State Police a video showing Bryson in an undisclosed wooded area. In the video, Bryson can be heard saying, “My dad didn’t hit me in the eye.”

Daniel Muir reportedly told investigators that a “stranger” had hit the teen, prompting them to take him to his grandmother's house for a few days. However, he said they sent him back to Indiana after Cheryl Wright began “making decisions that Kristen Muir didn't agree with.”

While on their way home after picking up the teenager from his grandmother's house, Kristen and Daniel Muir were stopped by police. However, the 14-year-old was nowhere to be found in the vehicle, according to police.

Additionally, the parents' accounts of the traffic stop differed when they were interviewed separately by police. The probable cause affidavit states that Daniel Muir admitted to taking the teen to another location because the Department of Children's Services was looking for him and he wanted to protect his family.

He refused to reveal the location to police. On Friday, June 28, Daniel and Kristen Muir agreed to meet with Indiana State Police investigators, but later backed out.

On Wednesday, Bryson was finally found at a compound owned by the religious group Servant Leader's Foundation, which the Muir family belongs to and which some accuse of being a cult. Three SWAT teams, police officers, K9 units and even a bomb squad were deployed to find the missing boy.

Daniel Muir is charged with obstruction of justice and domestic violence. Indiana State Peeler agents are searching the Cass County property owned by the Servant Leader's Foundation.

A sign that says “Welcome to Straitway Indiana Goshen” hangs on the property. Cheryl Wright spoke by phone with WRTV on Wednesday and said, “Today is a great day. I feel a great sense of relief even though I have a long road ahead of me.”

The Muirs' attorney, Nathan Vining, issued the following statement: “I urge the community and the media to avoid jumping to conclusions. The Muir family was inappropriately targeted and is not guilty of any abuse or illegal activity. They are entitled to a court hearing and due process.”

On Wednesday, July 3, at 1 p.m., the couple was in Cass County Court. According to Judge Steven Kitts, they were both denied bail due to flight risk. They are scheduled to return to court on July 16 for a new hearing.
