NF Railway RPF rescues 45 miners, 3 women; apprehended 29 people for theft

GUWAHATI: The NF Railway Rail Protection Force (RPF), during regular checks and movements in the area between May 17 and 31, 2024, apprehended 32 people involved in human trafficking and theft of railway passengers' property .

During their trips to different stations and trains, they managed to rescue 48 people, including 45 minors and three women, and apprehend three human traffickers from different locations. Similarly, the teams also recovered the stolen personal belongings of the passengers like valuables worth around Rs 4,95,000. The teams arrested 29 people involved in this valuables recovery like cell phones, laptops, bags, cash, etc.

In a recent incident on May 21, 2024, a joint team of RPF/Kishanganj (KNE) and SIB/Katihar (KIR), during regular checking and movement, rescued three minor boys from Kishanganj railway station. They also apprehended two human traffickers during the rescue incident and later handed them over to OC/GRP/Kishanganj along with the minor boys for further action according to law. Similarly, on May 16, 2024, a joint team of RPF/Jalpaiguri Road (JPE) and Alipurduar (APDJ) rescued a missing girl from train 15658 DN (Brahmaputra Express) at Jalpaiguri Road station. The team apprehended a suspected human trafficker, who was later handed over to local police for taking action in accordance with the law. The rescued girl was later handed over to her cousin brother after due verification by the RPF post at Jalpaiguri Road outpost.

In another incident on May 19, 2024, RPF and GRP teams from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) apprehended two persons from NJP railway station and recovered five mobile phones worth around Rs. 75,000 . which were stolen from train passengers. In another incident, on May 17, 2024, a joint team of RPF, GRP and CPDS from Katihar, during regular checks and movement, apprehended five persons and recovered five mobile phones stolen from railway passengers of worth around Rs. 50,000. Later, the persons apprehended in the two incidents were handed over to the GRP outpost officer at NJP and KIR, respectively, along with the recovered valuables for further legal proceedings.

The NF Railway RPF is always ready to provide services to extend guidance and assistance to rail users, in addition to its task of ensuring passenger safety. Rail passengers can dial 139 (toll-free number) if they encounter any problem during their train journey, a press release said.
