Newark man sentenced to 22 years in prison for fatally stabbing roommate at homeless shelter

A Newark man convicted of fatally stabbing his roommate at a homeless shelter has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

The Essex County Prosecutor says Michael Wylie brought a knife into a homeless shelter in February 2022. He then stabbed his roommate, Kevin Williams, in the face, neck and heart.

Authorities say Wylie was arrested while still in possession of the weapon. He was convicted of aggravated manslaughter and possession in April.

He must serve 85 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole, authorities said.
