New York police kill apparently armed teen: video

Deadly shot

13-year-old boy, allegedly armed, killed by police

A 13-year-old boy apparently brandishing a gun was shot dead by police in New York City – and the entire violence was caught on camera.

The footage opens with three police officers running down a street after the teenager in the upstate city of Utica on Friday evening.

Officers caught up with the boy and wrestled him to the ground in a residential area. One officer can be seen standing over the boy outside a house and punching him as he lay on the lawn. There was a brief scuffle before one of the officers shot the boy.

As the chaos unfolded, neighbors stood outside their homes filming the incident with their cellphone cameras. They can be heard reacting in horror after the gunshot. One person yelled, “Oh my God! Yo! He just shot her!”

The teenager was rushed to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Utica police officials said officers arrested two juveniles as part of an investigation. But the 13-year-old fled on foot and officers chased him as he appeared to pull out a gun, police said.

This led to a confrontation during which the officer discharged his weapon, killing the boy.

Authorities have now launched an investigation into the police-involved shooting.
