New York DA's office investigates case in which police shot and killed teen who pointed replica gun

JAKARTA – The New York Prosecutor's Office, United States, conducted an investigation into the police case that a 13-year-old boy was shot dead after pointing a replica gun at a police officer.

The announcement from New York State Attorney General Letitia James came a day after hundreds of people attended a community warning for teenager Nyah Mway who was killed Friday night last week.

Citing New York State Executive Law, James said the Bureau of Special Investigations, which is part of his office, tracks all reported incidents involving police officers that may have resulted in a person's death due to their actions or negligence.

As ABC News reported Monday, July 1, the shooting between the youths occurred as Utica officers were arresting two people in connection with an undisclosed police investigation, the Utica Police Department said.

When he stopped, a 13-year-old boy, identified as Nyah Mway, allegedly fled from the pursuing officer, according to police.

Nyah allegedly pointed an object that looked like a gun at the officer, prompting one of the officers to shoot the teenager, investigators said.

The shooter, a teenager, is known as Patrick Husnay. The boy was seriously injured and taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police found a 17th generation GLOCK replica pistol with a detachable magazine.
