New Orleans FBI opens investigation into Brunett murders | Crime/Police

The Federal Bureau of Investigation's New Orleans field office is taking over the investigation into the murder of Callie Brunett and her 3-year-old daughter, who was allegedly kidnapped along with her older sister in Jackson, Miss., where local police raised allegations of possible human trafficking in this case.

“The FBI has now opened a thorough investigation into the Brunett case,” the agency said in a prepared statement Friday, adding that the FBI will continue to work with its local law enforcement partners in Louisiana and the Mississippi. “The FBI is dedicating every available resource and tool at its disposal to this investigation, including victim services personnel who are working closely with the survivors of this unspeakable tragedy.”

Brunett's father found her dead Thursday morning at her home in Loranger, Tangipahoa Parish, about 36 hours after she was last seen alive with her two daughters, Jalie and Erin, according to police. local order.

Thursday afternoon, Jackson police located Brunett's stolen vehicle and soon after found 6-year-old Jalie Brunett alive but injured. The body of 3-year-old Erin Brunett was found in a nearby wooded area.

A suspect, Daniel Callihan, was arrested in Jackson Thursday afternoon in connection with the murders. He is currently being held in the Rankin County Jail.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade told WVUE-TV that investigators found indications of possible human trafficking at a home near where Erin Brunett's body was found. found.

“We see cages, small animal cages,” Wade told the station. “It’s very, very disturbing for me as a police chief and as a father to witness and see what I saw.”
