New Jersey municipal ordinances: Point Pleasant Beach police enforce strict rules, including curfew, to deter unruly teens

OCEAN COUNTY, New Jersey (WABC) — As many prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, New Jersey authorities will impose a curfew on teens at Point Pleasant Beach.

Under city ordinances, anyone under the age of 18 is not allowed to walk between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. on streets, sidewalks, highways, boardwalks or any other public place without an adult present. Sitting and standing on railings along the beach promenade are also prohibited.

Point Pleasant Beach Police Department says violators will be arrested, while their parents could be fined up to $2,000.

Recently, incidents involving teenagers have increased at night in Jersey Shore towns. Police have implemented a curfew to ensure the safety of the community.

“This is a proactive measure to reduce the incidence of nighttime incidents involving our youth, improve public safety and promote a safer environment for all. We believe that by ensuring our young residents are home at a reasonable hour, we can better protect them from potential harm and foster a healthier community atmosphere,” Mayor Doug Vitale said in a statement.
