Unfortunately, both children were pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that the one-year-old child was stabbed and both children were drowned by Elkins.

NBC10 sources reported that the children drowned in the home's bathtub. Elkins made his first appearance before Judge Scott Basen Wednesday afternoon, with his next court date set for July 1.

Video footage from the scene showed investigators removing items from the home and loading them into a sheriff's office vehicle. Authorities confirmed Elkins was apprehended “without incident” at the scene and transported to the Ocean County Jail.

Prison records show Elkins is married and has a master's degree. It remains to be seen when she will next appear in court.
