New details revealed in shooting, fatal assault on I-5 in Federal Way

Detectives have identified a suspect in the fatal stabbing and shooting on I-5 in Federal Way involving four people in a BMW Wednesday.

Washington State Police officers were dispatched to the scene of the incident around 2:40 p.m. on northbound I-5 near South 375th Street. 911 callers reported multiple people were injured in and around the BMW, partially in the right ditch. A shooting was also reported, according to a WSP news release.

The police found a man and a woman with stab wounds who had walked away from the BMW. Another man was lying on the ground next to the BMW with multiple gunshot wounds. The driver was in the car with a large stab wound to his neck. He died at the scene, according to the press release.

Patriot Ryan Lemay, 19, was identified as the driver who died Friday, according to a news release from the King County Medical Examiner's Office.

Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.

At one point, traffic was blocked up to the Puyallup River Bridge, the News Tribune reported. The crime scene was cleared after 11 p.m. that day, the statement said.

Detectives later determined that the man who suffered the gunshot wounds was the suspect. They believe he was in the back seat when he stabbed the driver and two other passengers.

He remains in the hospital and, once he is medically cleared, will be booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault, the statement said. Detectives are determining who fired the handgun. The investigation is ongoing.

The names of those involved will not be released until the King County Prosecutor's Office files charges.
