New details: Cordova shooting, 2 teens shot, 1 critical | News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – FOX13 is learning more about what led to a shooting that left at least two victims, including a 15-year-old girl.

Police received a call to a home on Chimneyrock Boulevard early Friday morning. Police said they found people with gunshot wounds when they arrived.

Neighbors who live near the area are concerned about what happened.

“Parents need to take control of their children,” one person anonymously told FOX13.

“It's crazy. Why do you think the first thing you have to use is a gun? I don't understand,” said Jerri Pennington who told FOX13 she has lived in the neighborhood since 1991.

The Memphis Police Department said they arrived at the home in the 8000 block of Chimneyrock Boulevard on Friday around 6:45 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. Police said his girlfriend told them he was there to spend the night.

“You shouldn’t have been there anyway. You knew better,” Pennington responded upon learning of the circumstances that led to the recent shooting.

According to the police report, the girlfriend continued to share what she saw with officers. She told them her mother spotted her boyfriend in bed and asked him out. The situation then degenerated.

The report says the mother continued to yell at her daughter's boyfriend when he went out. In response, he allegedly entered the house with a gun and fired shots upstairs at a person who was fleeing.

“It’s just a shame that it had to come to this.” The mother should have immediately called the police and let the police handle it,” another neighbor told FOX13. “There’s a lot of comings and goings there, so I guess it’s not surprising.”

FOX13 also learns the mom's boyfriend was home at the time. Police say he shot the other man.

“Instead of cursing someone or going to fight you with fists or something, let me take out my gun and shoot you. It's sad. It’s sad,” Pennington said.

At last check, the suspect was listed in critical condition. Police said he was shot multiple times. MPD also reported finding the suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant in Shelby County for robbery.

Meanwhile, police said the person who shot the suspect left the scene before authorities arrived.
