New colorful Steam roguelike with an incredible weapon system playable now

Fall of Odin is a roguelike worth watching. Blending Norse mythology with technology and channeling the twin-stick pixel art action descended from Enter the Gungeon into something entirely new, it's a frenetic shooter with a lot more structure than I expected. initially expected. With a new demo as part of Steam Next Fest, you can play as one of the techno-mythological characters and fight your way through the Norse gods with some serious cybernetic enhancements.

Taking up arms as a Norse warrior, miner, or even elk, you journey through a selection of randomly generated levels in Odinfall. You pick up weapons, use parts of the terrain for cover, and dodge the barrage of bullets to stay alive as you fight your way through each environment.

Odinfall sets itself apart from other roguelike games in truly inventive ways. Levels are destructible, there are plenty of skill trees to upgrade from the start, and every weapon you find can be transformed into an overpowered monstrosity with mods. The gold you find allows you to purchase any weapon mods you come across, and any attachments stack to give you tools of absolute destruction.

So while I'm dashing out of cover and out of cover, I'm also looking for health pickups, new weapons, and mods to help me get as far as possible. You can fire multiple shots at once, ammo can bounce around the level or you can set fire to everyone hit by your bullet. Combined with procedural generation, Odinfall's weapon system allows for on-the-fly decision-making and truly engaging roguelike gameplay – it's something special.

Odinfall even features online co-op so you can do all this with a friend, but stay calm when the screen is filled with bullets, shrapnel, lasers, enemies, and explosions.

With stunning pixel art and a truly inspired techno-mythological mashup, the fact that Odinfall has no release date to speak of really upsets me. The demo is fantastic, and while it will keep us busy for a while, I just want to know exactly when I can expect the sequel.

The Odinfall demo is part of the Steam Next Fest until Monday, June 17, so be sure to download it before then.. You can find the game here.
