New blow in the alleged murder of a wheelie bin

The alleged murder of a South Australian man in a 'dumpster' continues to grow in scale and complexity, with the prosecution of four people accused of involvement in his death and disappearance once again delayed as further reports emerge. elements are revealed.

Sheree Glastonbury and Mark Murphy appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with the murder of Mr McLean, Ms Glastonbury's former partner, who police say suffered months of violence and attacks before to be killed, dismembered and put in a wheelie bin.

Mr Murphy's twin brother Peter Murphy and Lynette Sexton, who also appeared in court, were charged with assisting an offender for allegedly helping to transport, store and dispose of Mr McLean's body.

The four men, all in pre-trial detention, were expected to plead their case, but the prosecution's response date has been pushed back as their defense lawyers grapple with every element of the case, including a timeline of 170 pages of the alleged heinous crime prepared by prosecutors.

Ms Sexton's lawyer requested an adjournment to consider the case, telling the court he had received a USB stick containing the detailed brief on Tuesday.

“I was provided with a USB drive yesterday which, I was told, contains all of this material, involving several hundred pages, including listening device transcriptions, of which we have not yet benefited,” he told magistrate John Wells.

“There is a spreadsheet of listening devices, but the timeline is virtually impossible to follow.

“From Mr. Sexton’s point of view, I need to see this material,” he continued.

“It seems that the crucial material that ties all of this together is the material that was provided to me yesterday.”

Stacey Carter, on behalf of Ms Glastonbury, also requested more time to consume the voluminous material and receive instructions from her client.

“I was asked to ask for more time because she received part of the brief quite late, but we also received the USB stick on Wednesday… we will have to upload that material,” she said.

“She is in police custody. I notice that when we post documents from our office to Ms. Glastonbury, she does not receive them for three or four weeks. That worries me.

James Marcus, on behalf of Mark Murphy, also asked for more time, telling the court that he “had just learned of the existence of this significant new material, which we were not aware of.”

“So from Mr Mark Murphy’s point of view, we would need to see him to provide further advice,” he said.

The convoluted horror is believed to have begun in April 2022, when police allege Ms Glastonbury led a campaign of violence against Mr McLean, which included a bottle and ax attack.

Another man, Anthony Lloyd, Ms Glastonbury's former partner, attacked Mr McLean with acid.

He pleaded guilty to the attack in September 2022 and in July 2023 he was jailed for the crime.

He claimed he attacked Mr McLean at the behest of Ms Glastonbury.

There is no suggestion that Mr Lloyd was involved in Mr McLean's murder.

Police allege Ms Glastonbury murdered Mr McLean on August 18, 2022, at the couple's Andrews Farm home in Adelaide's north.

They further allege that Ms. Glastonbury and Mark Murphy dismembered Mr. McLean, then took his body to Mr. Murphy's home, where they stole a neighbor's wheelie bin and stuffed his torso inside.

In October, police found Mr McLean's torso in a wheelie bin in Salisbury South.

Police arrested and charged Ms Glastonbury and Mark Murphy on March 6, 2023, and Peter Murphy and Lynette Sexton on March 22, 2023.

Prosecutor Mark Alessandrini, speaking Wednesday, asked for more time for the defense to review the evidence.

Mr Wells granted the adjournment and re-entered the response billing date as 27 August.

All four remain in custody.
