New allegations against Spalding detention deputy

The victim's mother says the sheriff's office failed the community after failing to properly investigate her son's assault.

SPALDING COUNTY, Ga. — After learning about an alleged sexual assault by a detention officer on an inmate who was with her son, a mother said investigators failed several families when they didn't had not investigated one of their own.

Quentin Morgan, 22, a former Spalding County Jail deputy, is behind bars after his May 29 arrest. One inmate said Morgan entered his cell and sexually assaulted him.

11Alive learned of another incident involving Morgan with an inmate a few weeks earlier.

“My son said, 'Please don't hit me again! Please don't hit me!' He was begging him,” Brenda Dieckmann said.

Her 59-year-old son was in fear for his life while her son was allegedly assaulted by former Deputy Morgan. John Allen Wright had only been in prison for two months before this happened.

“He said this officer came in while he was having breakfast. He was sitting at a table with six other guys, and he said all of a sudden this officer grabbed him from the back and threw him against a cupboard (and hit him in the forehead, then he took him, dragged him by his feet and carried him to his room, then kicked him three times in the ribs). Dieckmann said.

Brenda said when she contacted so that an investigation into the incident could be carried out, no action was taken. A few weeks later, Morgan was fired and arrested for sexually assaulting another inmate.

“It really upset me to think that if they had done something, this would never have happened to this boy,” Dieckmann said.

11Alive spoke to this inmate's mother right after Morgan's arrest. She was extremely hurt and disappointed to hear the news.

“When you're talking about a court officer, it's 100 times worse, because it's a police officer that you're supposed to trust,” Judy Freeman said.

We have contacted the Spalding County Sheriff's Office regarding the assault allegations. None were refused. In a statement, deputies said the investigation was still active and they could provide no additional details.

“It doesn't take a month to get there. No, it doesn't,” Dieckmann said.

As time goes by, Brenda's frustrations continue to grow. She said Morgan was “sick.”

“We don't know how many people he did this to. He should never be able to put his feet back on the sidewalk here,” Dieckmann said.
