“I've been on a lot of interviews, but this one was pretty intense,” Hernandez said. “I think it’s great because it shows that the city really tried really hard to make sure they got the right candidate.”

Hernandez spent about 30 years in the fire service.

He previously served as Fire Chief for the City of Rochester, New York, where he supervised 482 sworn personnel and 24 civilians.

“I love the ability to help people and the community,” Hernandez said. “It’s important to have work that feels meaningful to you.”
