Nevada County Sheriff's Office locates missing jet skier in reservoir

(FOX40.COM) — The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said they found the missing person in Rollins Reservoir Monday after she fell off her jet ski.

Authorities identified the man as Hashim Raza Rizvi, 49, of Davis, after locating his body Thursday evening using “symbiotic robots.”

“The depth he was at was far too dangerous for our respective dive teams to safely recover him,” said Incident Commander and Lt. Russell Greene. “We are fortunate to have access to a variety of advanced technologies, such as remotely controlled symbiotic robots, which have made recovery safe and effective. »

The technology used in the research included sonar, remotely controlled symbiotic robots and lidar scanning technology.

Shortly before noon Monday, dispatch centers in Nevada and Placer counties began receiving calls reporting a man and two women were on a jet ski. While operating the jet ski, the man attempted to turn around, which ejected all three people from the boat.

Initial reports indicated that none of the jet ski's occupants were wearing life jackets and none of them knew how to swim, but family members later confirmed to deputies that Rizvi was a strong swimmer.

The sheriff's office said Rizvi never resurfaced. Both women managed to surface but were “in distress” due to their swimming deficits; however, only one paddleboarder was able to save them.

“We are saddened by these human losses but are grateful that our teams have been able to recover. [Rizvi] and put an end to his family,” Lt. Greene said.
