“In addition to being illegal, many of the crops we have eradicated over the years have had significant environmental health impacts, such as the illegal dumping of hazardous chemicals and human waste into our shared local streams and rivers,” said NCSO Detective Vincent Martinez. “Others have posed fire hazards, among other environmental concerns.”

Search warrants have been issued on properties in Nevada City, Grass Valley, Auburn and Smartsville, with additional search warrants expected to be executed in July. Enhanced measures will remain in effect throughout the growing season through the fall.

NCSO works closely with Nevada County Code Compliance and other allied agencies on illegal cannabis investigations. Helicopter flights over Nevada County are conducted regularly and all information and leads from concerned citizens are investigated to the fullest extent possible.
