Netanyahu continues to claim US hasn't sent arms shipments in four months

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once again claims that the United States has not sent significant arms shipments to Israel in months.

Netanyahu had previously claimed there was a slowdown in arms shipments, but he furthered his claims on Sunday during a cabinet meeting, saying almost no weapons had been shipped from the United States in four months , an accusation vehemently denied by the White House.

“For many weeks we have been calling on our American friends to speed up shipments,” Netanyahu said, according to the newspaper. Wall Street Journal. “We've done it over and over again. We've done it at senior levels and at every level, and I want to emphasize, we've done it in private practice. We got all kinds of explanations, but we understood nothing: the fundamental situation has not changed.”

He added that “some items arrived sparsely, but most of the weapons were left behind.”

A White House official made comments similar to those made Thursday by National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, telling the outlet their position was clear.

“We have made our position on this clear on several occasions and we will not continue to respond to the Prime Minister's political statements. We look forward to constructive consultations with Defense Minister Gallant in Washington this week,” they said.

Kirby went into more detail after Netanyahu's initial accusations on Thursday, expressing confusion.

Netanyahu's video “was confusing to say the least, certainly disappointing, especially since no other country is doing as much to help Israel defend itself against the threat of Hamas and, frankly, against the other threats it faces in the region. United States,” Kirby said. “I believe we have made clear to our Israeli counterparts, through various vehicles, our deep disappointment with the statements expressed in this video and our concerns about the accuracy of the statements made. »

Tensions have reached an unprecedented level between Biden and Netanyahu amid Israel's Rafah offensive, which the Biden administration had warned about for months. Netanyahu is expected to address a joint session of Congress on July 24.
