Nearly 50 people arrested by San Jose police on sexual assault warrant

San Jose police arrested nearly 50 people on outstanding warrants for crimes related to sexual assault in three months, according to a department statement.

The investigation, which lasted from February to April, identified a total of 46 people suspected of having committed a series of crimes ranging from misdemeanor sexual assault to criminal cases of sexual assault of a minor and rape, police said in a press release Tuesday.

The arrested suspects were mostly men, but at least one suspect was a woman. Their ages ranged from 19 to 73 years old. Most of the suspects were from San Jose, but some of those arrested were from other Bay Area cities.

Several were arrested out of state, in Wyoming, Louisiana and New Mexico.

The San Jose Police Sexual Assault Investigation Unit coordinated with San Jose Patrol Officers and the city's Street Crimes Unit to make the arrests. San Jose police said those arrested were suspected of crimes committed between 2019 and 2024.

“Our SAIU detectives are doing an outstanding job holding these perpetrators accountable, allowing our survivors to begin their healing process and have peace of mind,” said Acting Police Chief Paul Joseph. “I am grateful for their dedication to taking these dangerous criminals off the streets and bringing justice to our survivors. »

The department's statement notes there could be multiple victims following the arrests and urges anyone with additional information to contact the San Jose Police Department's Sexual Assault Investigation Unit at 408-277- 4102.
