Near-record heat with inland storms Thursday in the SWFL

IDEAL FOR MEANS WITH NO BASE IN REALITY. >> WE HAVE ENOUGH CRIBETTES HERE. Yeah, it's okay, at least they did it. >> MAKE THEIR WAY TO SOUTHWEST FLORIDA. I'm just waiting for last year. DRAGON KOMODO AT THIS POINT. You know, when I first moved here and I saw an alligator right in the ditch, I was like, my God. WHAT DID I DO TO MYSELF? AND BAHIA? It's like a normal night to see them all the time. WE GOT THE WHOLE LAKE. YEAH. I have to go python hunting some time. We have to do everything we could do if we can win, very far from my car. It's a small start to talk about the ones that are to come, I said that Everblades was good. They had the victory last night, but the Everglades are there. >> IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA. I mean, it's hot. THERE IS A CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE FORECAST. YES, AND SOME MORE PROMISING RAIN PROSPECTS ACROSS NEXT WEEK. BUT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT 40% COVERAGE TODAY. MOST OF THE STORMS WILL BE AND THE LANDS will drop a bit by the weekend, then start to rise. We enter next week as we track some tropical moisture heading over the South Florida Peninsula. SO LOOKING AT THE NEXT 7 DAYS AND AGAIN, MOST OF THIS RAIN WILL BE NEXT WEEK. I JUST WANT TO SHOW YOU THAT THE POTENTIAL IS THERE FOR ONE TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN, EVEN MAYBE MORE THAN SOME OF OUR FORECAST MODELS. SO WE'RE GOING TO TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR LONG RANGE FORECAST IN JUST A MOMENT NOW AS YOU PREPARE TO GET OUT THE GATE. IT'S A NICE CALM START FROM CAPE CORAL CHARLOTTE PORT AND NAPLES, OR MUGGY METER TODAY. You know, I almost put him in the next category of the brutal category, but we're not there yet. BUT TODAY WILL BE QUITE OPPRESSIVE WITH INCREASING HUMIDITY. You'll be able to feel it as soon as you walk out the door this morning, looking for Naples. NOW, THOSE ARE THE FEELINGS OF TEMPERATURES, NOT THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURES, BUT IT'S PROBABLY THE MOST RELEVANT NUMBER, RIGHT? 85 IS WHAT CAPE CORAL FEELS. ACTUAL TEMPERATURE CLOSER TO 80 DEGREES OVER THE NEXT HOURS AFTER SUNRISE WE ARE UNTIL 10:00 AM 87 IN THE LOWER 80S AND THE RISE CONTINUES UNTIL MID AFTERNOON. ALMOST LIKE YESTERDAY. IT'S GOING TO BE HOT TODAY, 96 AT 3 P.M. BUT SOME NEIGHBORHOODS ARE ACTUALLY REACHING THE UPPER 90S. AND GORDA YESTERDAY MENTIONED IT BRIEFLY A FEW MOMENTS AGO, JUST BEFORE THE BREAK, WE EQUATED THE ALL-TIME RECORD OF 101 TODAY PROVISIONING 98. BUT WHEN SURPRISING ME, IF WE COME CLOSER TO 100 96 FORT MYERS, 93 NAPLES AND MID TO THE UPPER 90'S HERE BETWEEN I-75 AND LAKE OKEECHOBEE. THE HEAT INDEX TODAY WILL BE HIGHER. So take it easy outside and we're used to the heat, but just make sure you stay hydrated and take breaks if possible, especially if you're working outside. ONE OF THE 6 SMELLS LIKE THE TEMPERATURE IN IMMOKALEE. WE WILL BE WATCHING A FEW STORMS FOR THE SECOND PART OF THE DAY. AND BY MIDDLE TO LATE AFTERNOON. BUT THE SEA BREEZE FROM THE GULF COAST WILL MOVE QUITE DEEPLY INLAND TODAY. And that's usually what dictates and triggers where these storms are going to settle. SO YOU CAN SEE A PRETTY LARGE GROUP OF STORMS DEVELOPING ACROSS THE FLORIDA PENINSULA. CLOSER TO HENDRY GLADES COUNTY, JUST EAST OF LABELLE AND ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY. BUT ONE THING WE WILL BE WATCHING AS WE GET INTO THE EVENING IS SOME STORMS TRYING TO RETURN CLOSER TO THE COAST. AT LEAST SOME RESIDUAL RAIN AROUND 8 AM. 9 AM TONIGHT AND EVEN CLOSER TO 11 PM AND MIDNIGHT IS THIS CHANCE FOR SOME LONG STORMS. BUT MOST OF THE RAIN TODAY WILL BE FAR EAST OF I-75 FRIDAY, FOLLOWING ISOLATED STORMS. Same for Saturday and Sunday. So it definitely doesn't look like a wash this weekend. IF YOU HAVE OUTDOOR PLANS, YOU'RE WATCHING TEMPERATURES IN THE MID 90S. AND AS WE LOOK AT THE NEXT 10 DAYS, WHAT I WANT TO WISH IS CLOSER TO TUESDAY WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. AND WE WILL TALK MORE ABOUT THIS COMING IN YOUR TROPICAL UPDATE. ALTHOUGH AT THIS POINT WE'RE NOT REALLY CONCERNED WITH ANY TYPE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT, BUT WE WILL CERTAINLY SEE A LOT OF TROPICAL HUMIDITY NORTHWARD FROM THE CARIBBEAN AND FOR US THAT MEANS MORE HUMIDITY FOR THE ATMOSPHERE TO WORK WITH HIGHER CHANCE OF RAIN AS WE ENTER MONDAY TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY NEXT WEEK. So that's what I'm showing you with this precipitation. POTENTIAL ONE TO 2, EVEN CLOSER TO 3 INCHES THAN WE DEFINITELY NEED. WE HAVE A SEVERE DROUGHT

Near-record heat with inland storms Thursday in the SWFL

The heat will be pretty brutal Thursday, even for June standards in Southwest Florida. Daytime temperatures will reach the mid-90s during the heat of the day, and with the added humidity it will feel like it's close to 105 degrees. Places like Punta Gorda, Babcock Ranch and LaBelle will reach nearly 100 degrees today, which doesn't happen too often in Southwest Florida. Scattered thunderstorms will develop quite deep inland late this afternoon and evening. Hendry, Glades and eastern Collier County will see the best chance for rain through the evening. A few storms could even be quite strong and capable of producing damaging winds and hail. Don't expect much change in our weather over the weekend. Expect warm, humid and sunny conditions with highs in the mid-90s. Rain chances will remain fairly isolated through next week as we track tropical moisture spreading toward South Florida from the western Caribbean. This would help bring higher rain chances and more clouds to Southwest Florida next week, which would greatly help our current drought.
