Near-miss data for road safety brought to the Midwest for

BROWN DEER, Wisc., June 25, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Traffic and Parking Control Co., Inc. (TAPCO), manufacturer, distributor and service provider of traffic safety innovations, is pleased to announce its partnership with Viva. This partnership will bring award-winning, AI-powered computer vision traffic monitoring sensors to Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Ohio, Missouri and Kentucky to improve traffic flow at intersections and traffic-related incidents.

TAPCO serves a diverse clientele of transportation managers, often in partnership with design firms, to offer a complete range of traffic management and road safety solutions. TAPCO has a long history of working with U.S. transportation agencies to advance safety applications across the industry and has been serving Wisconsin's signalized intersections since 1956.

“We are excited to partner with TAPCO to provide high-quality, traffic monitoring and road safety information to the regions’ transportation agencies,” said Minco de Boer, Head of International Sales and Strategic Partnerships at Viva. “We believe Viva's AI platform complements TAPCO's road safety and traffic management products to create unique value for Midwest cities.

Viva's computer vision sensors capture anonymous, real-time, and highly accurate multimodal transportation data, providing authorities with detailed road network information. First established in London, United Kingdom, in 2016, Viva launched in North America earlier this year and works with TAPCO as a technology partner in the Midwest. Viva already works with other agencies in the US, including NYC DOT, where its latest feature, Near Miss, has been deployed to provide the city with road safety and hazard information at key intersections in Manhattan.

TAPCO has been integrating cutting-edge intersection technology into Wisconsin communities for over 60 years and is working hard to begin bringing this integration expertise to other Midwestern municipalities while bringing hand-picked intersection features, full of value – like Viva's Near Miss software capabilities just installed in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

Wauwatosa Senior Civil Engineer Michael May adds, “Crash data often doesn't tell you the whole story of an intersection's safety. That's why Viva's Near Miss data is important for us to better understand interactions and what we could change to create safer intersections for everyone.

“The partnership between TAPCO and Viva represents our company's commitment and vision to safe travel, providing cutting-edge technology focused on improving road safety and critical data insights for road users. road vulnerable,” notes Robert Prosser, chief revenue officer at TAPCO.
