NE Salem store fire halts traffic on Silverton Road

A fire at a store in northeast Salem Friday morning closed Northeast Silverton Road, according to the Salem Police Department.

The agency told the X at 8:30 a.m. that Salem firefighters were extinguishing a “structure fire” at the intersection.

Fire crews responded around 8 a.m. to a two-alarm commercial fire at 3473 Silverton Rd. NE, according to PulsePoint, a service that shares emergency alerts based on 911 calls. The address is the location of the Spice Adult Store.

Northeast Hawthorne Avenue was also originally closed, but was later reopened, according to Deputy Fire Chief Brian Carrara. Police asked drivers to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

Carrara said shortly after 10 a.m. police were determining whether the fire was arson. He said 12 units responded but otherwise declined to provide details of the response.

Salem police spokeswoman Angela Hedrick said she had no details about the fire or its cause.
