NDLEA arrests Nigerian and five other drug traffickers in the metropolis

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 32-year-old Nigerian, Hassan Mummuni, for drug trafficking in Gombe State.

Mummuni was apprehended with 4,000 diazepam tablets and 1,250 kg of cannabis, which are prohibited drugs and substances, hidden in four pesticide tanks after a search.

Following his arrest, the anti-drug trafficking agency intercepted a consignment of 175,000 bottles of codeine syrup imported from India, just a week after seizing a shipment of 175,000 bottles of the same opioid at the Port Harcourt Port Complex in Onne, Rivers State.

Both seizures followed earlier intelligence, which led the Agency to request that the shipment be removed for 100 percent review.

The latest seizure of 875 cartons of codeine containing 175,000 bottles and weighing 26,250kg, was made during a joint review by the NDLEA, the Customs Service and other security agencies.

The container marked HASU 4787890 from India was on its way to Bonded Terminal C in Enugu State before it was intercepted.

In a statement released by the Director, Media and Advocacy,
NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, the agency intercepted five different packages containing illicit drugs concealed in women's clothing and synthetic hair bound for the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK).

Among the drugs seized were 620 ampoules of injectable pentazocine, promethazine and other opioids. The drug consignments were seized from a courier company in Lagos.

“In Gombe State, on the same day, Ibrahim Abubakar (aka Alhajiji) was arrested in Herwagana, with 6,740 tramadol tablets and 20,000 diazepam tablets.

“No less than 1,098 bottles of codeine syrup were recovered from a suspect, Onyekachi ThankGod Iwula, 42, following his arrest in a commercial bus at Aloma junction, Otukpa, Ogbadibo LGA, State of Benue.

“In Bauchi State, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Ningi-Kano road on Wednesday, June 5, arrested a 20-year-old woman, Hasana Usman, with 25 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 28.2kg, while that their counterparts in Yobe State arrested Ali Mohammed. , 42, on the Kano-Potiskum road, with 19,000 tramadol 225 mg tablets concealed in a black bag and in the suspect's travel bag.

“In Oyo State, Oladimeji Samson, 57, was arrested in a commercial bus at the Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway with 79 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 44.4kg and 48 grams of ecstasy, all hidden in the engine. compartment under the bus driver's seat.

“No less than 17,980 tramadol tablets and other opioids were seized from a suspect, Ali Isiaka Mohammed, 36, following his arrest at Ganaja village, Lokoja LGA, Kogi State, while the duo composed of Blessing Samuel, 35, and Unnanchi Mike, 34, was seized. , were arrested in possession of 804 bottles of codeine syrup in Narayi, Kaduna State.

“Also in Kaduna, Tijjani Umar, 37, and Yahaya Suleman, 35, were arrested with 33.9 kilograms of cannabis sativa at Lafiya area of ​​Kudan Local Government Area of ​​the state.

“At least nine suspects, including Salisu Sanda, 48, and James Andrew, 25, were arrested by NDLEA operatives during a raid in the Toaabora Hills area of ​​the Federal Capital Territory, in Abuja, Saturday June 8. A total of 83.01 kg of cannabis were recovered. them.

“With the same dynamism, Agency commands and formations across the country continued their war against drug abuse, AMA, their awareness activities in schools, worship centers, workplaces and communities, among others, over the past week.

“These include: an AMA awareness conference for students and teachers of the Dibal Progressive Academy, Kano; students from Saki Muslim High School, Oyo State; students and staff of St. David High School, Ile-Ife, Osun State; students of Wisdom Rules College, Ukpakiri, Abia State; traditional rulers and community leaders from Ilorin, Kwara State, as well as an AMA advocacy visit to the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu.
