NC 147 closed in Durham near Swift Ave. due to a death investigation

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A portion of northbound NC Highway 147, also known as the Durham Freeway, is closed near Swift Avenue early Saturday morning due to a death investigation.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded to a “crisis call” at that location around 2:20 a.m. Once there, they found a man dead.

Police said they do not yet know the cause of the man's death.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation's live traffic map shows the northbound lanes of the highway are closed for a stretch leading to the Swift Avenue exit (Exit 4) and extending slightly beyond.

NCDOT says traffic impact is expected to be high and the closure is expected to last until nearly 10 a.m.

Durham police said traffic was being diverted off the highway and back onto it just past the location of the active investigation.
