Natrona County coroner identifies Casper resident killed in police-involved shooting

The Natrona County Coroner's Office, in conjunction with the Casper Police Department and DCI, is investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a Casper resident, in the 5000 block of Pay It Forward Drive in Casper.

Natrona County Coroner James Whipps identified the deceased as Trae Stewart Spurlock, 26, of Casper. An autopsy has been scheduled and next of kin have been informed.

As officers attempted to arrest an individual, the suspect attempted to gain control of a firearm and was subsequently shot and killed by an officer. This is according to a press release from the CPD.

No police officers were injured during this event.

In accordance with Casper Police Department policies, the officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The investigation into this incident is in its early stages. Further information will be released in due course.
