Natasha Ryan, the girl in the closet, has died aged 40

Ryan and Black married in 2008 surrounded by family and friends and had four children.

Shortly after being found in 2003, Ryan appeared on Nine's 60 minutes program. She insisted Black didn't hold her against her will and said he tried multiple times to get her to call her home.

Natasha Ryan has been found alive and well, five years after her disappearance.

“I remember exactly the moment I left the house,” Ryan said.

“I was only 14 but mom was always nagging me about me and Scott. I felt like I needed to escape for a little while.

She only left home, five minutes from her mother, six times to go to the beach in the evenings, and battled food poisoning while learning to cook.

She later told the now-defunct British tabloid World News that she wore men's clothes, watched the hunt for her body on television, and vented her frustrations on a punching bag during her time in hiding.

Ryan said he also learned yoga positions to comfortably hide in Black's closet when he had visitors.

“Whenever someone came to Scott’s house, as was often the case in the beginning, I would hide,” Ryan said.

“In the clothes closet there was room so I could stand up if I tilted my head…but I sat in a yoga position because it was comfortable.”

She told police that one of the reasons she remained hidden was because the lie had become too big.

Ryan was found dead at Rockhampton Golf Club on Sunday morning by police responding to a call for a welfare check.

The death of the forty-year-old is not considered suspicious.

Asked about Ryan's death at a press conference this morning, Queensland Premier Steven Miles said it was a tragic story.

“My sympathies go out to his family and loved ones,” he said.
