Jennifer Kouchoukos

A woman accused of stabbing two young children has been found fit to stand trial.

But we can wonder if she was of sound mind at the time of the events.

Jennifer Kouchoukos appeared in court Monday, where she was arraigned on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and nine counts of aggravated battery.

DuPage County Judge Brian Telander accepted a report from a court-appointed psychologist that Kouchoukos understands the charges against her and is capable of helping her defend herself.

Kouchoukos, 51, of Naperville, is accused of stabbing two girls, ages 3 and 1, while babysitting them at their Lisle home on Nov. 17.

The girls' father found one of them in the bathroom, her clothes soaked in blood. Kouchoukos was also in the bathroom, covered in blood, authorities said.

Court documents allege that when the girls' father came home from work, he found one of them in a bathroom, her clothes soaked in blood. A Kouchoukos covered in blood was also in the bathroom.

The other girl was found in the kitchen. She had been stabbed “countless” times, according to court documents.

One of the girls suffered a collapsed lung and a cut lung.

Investigators suspect Kouchoukos of having drunk a bottle of wine and a large part of a bottle of rum.

A hospital nurse told police that Kouchoukos told her she had missed a few doses of medication to “make the addicts go away,” that she had been sober for five years and had relapsed because of the followers, and that the followers had told him to hurt the girls. , according to a prosecutor's motion filed in January.

The motion says relatives said she suffered from schizoaffective disorder and was taking medication to treat it.

The results of his mental health exam are not ready.

Kouchoukos is being held pretrial in the DuPage County Jail. His next court date is August 13.
