Muscatine police officer-involved shooting: suspects identified

Authorities have identified two men injured in a police-involved shooting in Muscatine Wednesday afternoon.

MUSCATINE, Iowa — Authorities have identified two men injured in a police-involved shooting in Muscatine Wednesday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS), Isidro Barajas Jr., 29, and Juan Aldo Beltran Delgado, 33, both of Muscatine, were identified as the men involved. They are being treated for their injuries.

Muscatine police said Wednesday that officers with the Muscatine County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant in the city limits around 3:30 p.m. on May 29. When law enforcement approached, police said Barajas Jr. and Delgado fled in a vehicle and led police on a high-speed chase on Highway 61.

While fleeing, police say the vehicle was involved in a collision at the intersection of Highway 61 and Cedar Street. They then allegedly fled on foot and Muscatine police said several shots were fired a short time later.

Officials said a drug task force officer who fired his weapon has been placed on critical incident leave pending the completion of the investigation. The case will be referred to the Muscatine County Prosecutor's Office for review. The name of the police officer will be revealed later.

Authorities have not said whether Barajas Jr. or Delgado have been charged with crimes.
