Murder: Three sentenced to life in prison for 2019 murder in Gurgaon | Gurgaon News

Gurgaon: A local court has sentenced three people to life imprisonment for the murder of a 32-year-old carpenter in 2019. One of the accused was related to the victim. Police said Dev and Kanhaiya of Faridabad and Sheetal of Jakhopur in Sohna were found guilty of murdering Sheetal's uncle Rakesh in Jakhopur on March 27, 2019. Sheetal was in a relationship with Kanhaiya and Rakesh had objected to their involvement. So, Dev and Kanhaiya shot Rakesh at his house. Kanhaiya is a grocery store operator in Faridabad and Dev alias Monu is his nephew. A few years before the murder, Rakesh's wife had eloped with Sheetal's husband and since then, Sheetal has been living with her uncle, Rakesh. According to police, Sheetal was involved with Kanhaiya before her marriage. “On the day of the murder, Sheetal went out of the house with her grandmother, leaving Rakesh alone at home. Meanwhile, Kanhaiya and Dev went to Rakesh's house and while Kanhaiya was holding Rakesh, Dev shot him in the head,” said Sandeep Kumar, Gurgaon police spokesperson. After the murder, Sheetal and her grandmother returned home and she claimed that unknown assailants had shot her uncle in their absence. However, according to cops, call records suggested that Sheetal was in touch with Kanhaiya before and after the crime. It was also established that Kanhaiya and Dev were in Jakhopur on that day. Kanhaiya and Dev were arrested from Faridabad on March 31 that year and based on their confessions, Sheetal was arrested on April 3. After the trial on Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge Mona Singh sentenced the trio to life imprisonment under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The accused were also penalized Rs 50,000 each.
