A 19-year-old man has died after being shot in Liverpool on Sunday evening, Merseyside Police said.

Officers and paramedics were called to the Liver Industrial Estate in Aintree shortly after 11.10pm.

The teenager was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A murder investigation is currently underway.

The head of the investigation, Mark Baker, urged anyone with information to come forward to help police provide “answers” to the victim's family and “bring his killer(s) to justice”.

“This is a terrible and tragic incident in which a young man has lost his life, and our thoughts are first and foremost with his family as they try to come to terms with their loss,” he added.

“Although this happened in an industrial area, there are residential houses nearby and I would urge anyone who has seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area, or heard anything, to come forward so we can give his family answers and bring his killer or killers to justice.”

A police cordon is in place at the scene, near a unit of Taskers furniture store, for forensic examinations.

Merseyside Police said “extensive” CCTV investigations were underway in the area and officers were going house to house.

High visibility patrols have been increased in the area to provide “reassurance”, they added, with police on hand to speak to anyone with concerns.

Mr Baker added that gun violence has “cost too many young lives” on Merseyside.

“While the past 12 months have seen the lowest number of firearms discharged in more than two decades, our efforts to take guns off the streets and put in jail those thoughtless enough to use them will never stop.” , did he declare.

“Every day, our officers execute arrest warrants, strip searches and stop and search to remove guns and other weapons from our streets.”

Incidents like this are a “tragic reminder,” he added, of how gun crimes can “rip families apart” and “ruin many more lives than just the victim.” .
