COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Court records have identified the suspect in Tuesday's multiple stabbings that injured three people and resulted in the shooting of the suspect by Columbus police.

Police said the suspect, Benjamin Paul Kelch, 66, of Columbus, remained hospitalized following the incident.

According to court records, Kelch is currently charged with one count of felonious assault.

On Tuesday, officers arrived at a home in the 300 block of Hoskins Way and allegedly saw Kelch with a knife approaching a man who was sitting on the porch, according to court records.

According to Columbus Police Sgt. James Fuqua, officers were able to subdue Kelch after two Taser deployments. During the confrontation, at least one officer fired his weapon; it is unclear whether Kelch was shot.

Once Kelch was in custody, officers found three stabbing victims at the scene. All three victims were hospitalized and are expected to recover from their injuries. Kelch was last listed in stable condition at the hospital.

There are currently no court dates listed for Kelch in online records.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure after a law enforcement officer fires his weapon at a crime scene.
