Multiple injured, including 8-year-old, in 'random' shooting in Michigan splash zone: Sheriff's Department

Between nine and 10 people were injured Saturday in a shooting at a water fountain in Rochester Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, with the youngest victim being 8 years old, the County Sheriff said. Oakland during a press conference Saturday evening.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said he did not know the status of the victims who had “different types of injuries.” The victims were transported to four local hospitals.

He said the suspect appeared to have gotten out of a vehicle, started shooting and then left the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in a “random act”.

The suspect is “contained” and law enforcement, including SWAT and armored vehicles, have a perimeter around the house where the person is located, Bouchard said, adding that they are trying to obtain a warrant search.

Bouchard said officers were on scene two minutes after receiving the call, around 5:11 p.m.

Investigators said they recovered a Glock 9mm pistol and three magazines, meaning the suspect may have fired 28 times and reloaded.

“This is obviously a gut punch for us in Oakland County,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “We have experienced so much tragedy.”

“We don't even fully understand what happened in Oxford,” he added, referring to the deadly 2021 Oxford high school shooting.

Later, Corewell Health said in a statement: “Our hearts go out to those who were affected by the shooting. » Corewell confirmed he was treating some of the victims, but would provide no additional details.
